Shopbuilt Non-Pedal Steel Guitar $385

  
IMPORTANT: This is NOT a conventional console-type steel guitar like those made by Sho-Bud or Emmons or ZB or Mullen, or ANY of the major pedal steel manufacturers. It was made by me in our garage for one of my guitar-playing sons guitar-playing friends, who wanted a simplified instrument that would be easy to learn for those times when he wanted to add steel guitar flavor to his bands sound without the ferocious expense and steep learning curve of mainstream pedal steel guitars. Being a longtime pedal steel player myself, I designed this one as essentially a standard-tuned 6-string guitar lying on its side, built onto a cabinet and up on (removable) legs like a conventional pedal steel.

Its 32 long by 7 1/2 wide, about 4 1/4 from the top of the neck to the bottom of the cabinet, and the non-adjustable legs are 27 long. As far as tuning, it can be tuned in any way a guitarist desires. It will sound good in standard guitar tuning on reliable slide techniques, tuned in open E for authentic blues licks, or with the classic C6 setup for old-school country and western swing material. And, of course, it will sound best through an amp that has reverb. According to our bathroom scale, it weighs around 15 pounds.
